I began working as an auditor at Mahoney in 1993. I started out full-time but then went to working a flex schedule for almost 20 years as my children grew up. I was honored to become Managing Partner in 2015. My time at Mahoney has been amazing. I have built lasting business relationships and friendships and so many wonderful memories. But I am ready to move on to the next stage, which is retirement effective on April 30, 2025. I know that sounds like it is a long time from now, but it is important for the future of Mahoney that we begin planning for this transition early.
The partner group worked hard during 2022 to determine the transition process around my retirement. We have decided to split the managing partner role into two roles, a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and a Chief Operating Officer (COO). The CEO will lead the strategic planning for the firm and will have overall responsibility for achieving Mahoney’s goals and growth plans. The COO will be responsible for ensuring the efficient operation of the day-to-day activities of the firm, including finance, office and facilities maintenance, marketing, information technology and human resources.
I am thrilled to announce that as of January 1, 2024, Tom Johnson will assume the role of CEO and Kari Erickson will assume the role of COO. We see 2023 as a planning and learning year, where Tom and Kari shadow many of the tasks I currently do. This shadowing will begin after our busy season ends on May 1, 2023.
Tom and Kari will maintain some of their client base, and some will be transitioned to others in the firm with Tom and Kari available for support, questions, and even lunch from time to time. We will work through what this means to each client and communicate broadly and to individual clients throughout 2023.
Another part of this transition and the continuation of our growth is the hiring of a Human Resources Director. I am happy to announce that Kevin Wold joined us this January to fill this new role. Kevin has been in human resources for over 20 years. He brings with him a proven track record with the strategic, operational, and analytical aspects of human resources. We are excited to have Kevin join us to help us further invest in and develop our amazing team!
