Receptionist/Office Assistant

*32 hours (M-F) transitioning to 40 hours Sept. 2022*

Core Hours: Monday-Thursday, 7:30am-5:30pm on site during the summer.

Mahoney is a highly recognized; award-winning public accounting firm based in St. Paul. We are a growing firm seeking a service-oriented individual with a professional presence, strong technical skills, and demonstrated success working within a fast-paced professional services environment.

As the main point of reception for our Firm; this position is well-suited for an ambitious, service-oriented individual, who thrives on variety, people contact, and efficiently carrying out a range of administrative, and project-based duties.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Professionally greet and provide direction for clients and colleagues of the firm.
  • Answer and direct incoming calls.
  • Prepare and process out-going mail and Fed Ex Courier services; ensuring adherence to priority and scheduled deadlines. Organize and deliver incoming mail as directed.
  • Coordination of calendars, meetings, events or deliveries and assist with social media posts.
  • Work with accountants to ensure that all documents are properly formatted and prepared according to Firm and/or client-specific guidelines.
  • Provide general administrative support to partners, managers and staff, including data processing, faxing, scanning and copying. Will also assist in firm-wide duties such as mailings, form letters, distribution lists and data updates.
  • Set up and maintenance of client profiles within our client-management software.
  • Prioritize incoming workflow to meet all deadlines in a deadline-focused environment.
  • Assist with the maintenance of office equipment and supplies including monitoring and ordering of supplies, creating tickets for fixes, ordering business cards, etc.
  • Assist with the preparation and assembly of reports, company materials and client documents as directed.
  • Partner with the Administrative team with projects and shared duties.

Qualifications Include:

  • 2 or more years previous related work experience in a professional services firm in an administrative function.
  • Associate Degree or equivalent coursework (preferred)
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, Word Press, Outlook
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and cognizant of confidentiality.
  • Excellent organization; detailed, efficiency, and prioritization skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, partners, public and external clients.

*This role will include overtime during the tax season (approx. Feb. – Mid-April)

Pay Range: $19 – $21/hour (approximate – D.O.E.)

Assurance Solutions Team

Audit or Tax Internship- Spring Semester 2023

Spring Semester 2023
Mahoney is a mid-sized; full- service St. Paul based public accounting firm known for our expertise working with clients in the real estate industry and nonprofit organizations. Mahoney is seeking Accounting students for our January, 2023 Internship program.
Pay: $23.00 per hour +overtime
Schedule: January – February 28 (possibly longer) – Audit Interns
January – April 15 – Tax Interns

As an Intern with Mahoney you will:

  • Learn how to use accounting and/or tax preparation software.
  • Receive direct hands on training from our experienced staff.
  • Assist in fieldwork of audits at client offices (Audit Interns).
  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements and/or tax returns.
  • Connect your education with a full spectrum internship experience.

Throughout your internship with us, you will be mentored and coached by team members in varying roles to help assist in your development and contributions.

Intern Candidate Qualifications:

  • Must have a 3.25 GPA or above.
  • Completion of Intermediate Accounting I or equivalent highly preferred
  • Must be flexible and able to work 60+ hours a week from approximately mid-January through April 15 depending on the work available and project needs.
  • Must be service minded with the ability to respond to multiple projects.
  • Have successfully completed Intermediate Accounting I coursework or equivalency.
  • Able to commit to a schedule of 60 hours per week during peak time periods of season.
  • Desires to experience a variety of clients and projects and stretch their abilities!

Business Solutions Team

Associate Accountant

Our Business Solutions team is looking for an Associate Accountant. This person is responsible for meeting the accounting needs for closely-held business clients and some nonprofit organizations. 

You will work directly with team leaders and management to learn the clients’ business; and ultimately become responsible for that client.

As a Business Solutions team member with Mahoney Ulbrich Christiansen and Russ you will:

  • Support a variety of accounting functions for clients, including:
    • Financial statements
    • Account and bank reconciliations
    • Bookkeeping services for clients
    • Preparing required work papers to support related work product
  • Become proficient with QuickBooks desktop and QuickBooks Online accounting software
  • Assist clients relating to basic QuickBooks questions and accounting functions
  • Assist in the preparation of tax returns

This position requires overtime during the “ busy season”, approximately 200-250 hours between January 15th and May 1st. 

Educational and Skill Set Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or Related Field and/or 1-3 years accounting experience
  • CPA Certification or working toward completion.
  • Developing technical knowledge.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills.

Tax Manager

A Top 25 Twin Cities based CPA firm, has a great opportunity for a Tax Manager.

This role holds responsibility for tax research and planning, client relationships, and primary signer for returns. Partnering with our Real Estate area as well as the key individual tax reviews are focus areas of this role. As a coach, and consult to firm leadership, this person works directly with partners and managers in the firm to learn the client’s business and ultimately become responsible for that client.

This position requires approximately 200-250 hours of overtime annually, occurring primarily during the tax filing season (January – April).

Qualification Requirements:
